Old Bay Shrimp and Sausage Dinner

Updated: Jul 8, 2022

The Old Bay Shrimp and Sausage dinner is a family favorite and I'm so excited to share this recipe with you. I make it at least twice a month for my family. IT'S THAT GOOD!!! And super fast and easy to make too. If you like this recipe, try it out and let me know what you think! Share with family and friends too! Pictures and reel I posted on social media are down at the bottom of this page.

Let's start with the ingredients. Here's what you'll need.

  • Old Bay Italian Sausage or regular italian sausage (you can add your own old bay seasoning)

  • Shrimp- we get frozen shrimp in the bag and use about half the bag.

  • Canned Diced Tomatoes (drained) 14.5 oz

  • Old Bay Seasoning

  • Rice (optional)

  • Zucchini (optional)

  • Shredded or grated parmesan cheese (optional)

  • Old Bay Hot Sauce (optional

Prepare the meat:

To prepare the meat, I usually take the sausage out in the morning and let it defrost during the day. A quick note about the Old Bay italian sausage: we get this meat from ALDI. My In-laws discovered it and once they shared it with us, we kept going back for more. However if you do not have an ALDI near you or unable to find Old Bay sausage in your own local grocery stores, you can easily put your own old bay seasoning on plain italian sausage. We like to cut the sausage up in pieces. You can cook your sausage however you like, but cutting it in pieces seem to mix the best with the other ingredients. And it cooks faster too!

The shrimp is easy to prepare. You can lay it out in the morning like the sausage but I like to wait until it is time to start cooking. Put half a bag of frozen shrimp or as much shrimp as you'd like into a bowl of water. Let the shrimp sit in the water. In about 5-10 minutes. Drain the water and then fill it again. Play around with the shrimp in the water until all pieces are no longer covered in ice, then drain the water again. This should defrost your shrimp and have it ready to cook. Pat the shrimp with a dry paper towel. We like to add old bay to the shrimp. Sprinkle and mix the old bay. This is only optional though.

Let's Start cooking:

I am going to write this in super easy steps for you.

  1. Heat up pan (medium heat recommended), add a tiny bit of pam or oil and put in the old bay italian sausage. Let it cook for 7-10 minutes, flipping pieces occasionally.

  2. Add the shrimp. Let cook until pieces are pink and smaller.

  3. Drain the can of diced tomatoes, add it to the pan with the shrimp and sausage.

  4. Stir all the ingredients in the pan.

  5. Cover the pan, lower heat and let simmer for a bit.

And that's it! The Old Bay Shrimp and Sausage is complete!

Now for the extras!

  • We like to put our sausage and shrimp over white rice. I've done it with riced cauliflower and zucchini and both options are great healthy alternatives.

  • My husband really likes old bay hot sauce. For an extra kick, that is great to add on top.

  • Finally, top with grated or shredded parmesan cheese. I think shredded is better than grated. But it is honestly your preference. My husband doesn't add the cheese. He likes it without it.

I really hope you like this recipe and I can't wait to hear all about how your family and friends enjoyed it too! Happy eating!!
